Going off grid is a major decision, especially when your property may have the grid close at hand. In some cases the cost of getting the grid connected to your property can be excessive and this is where an off grid solar system can be far more economical. However, the big caution is that in going off grid, you have to ensure you buy the best equipment and not short cut any components, as you are effectively buying your own energy power station, and the company that sells and installs it is in actual fact operating as your energy provider eg Origin. So, that means you need to be able to speak with the installer and gain confidence in them, knowing that, should you have a problem, they will be able to rectify it quickly and at any point in time. It is essential that you confirm the off grid installer is fully accredited through the Clean Energy Council to install off grid solar systems.

As such off grid systems can cost anywhere between $25,000 and $100,000 depending on how big the house is, what electrical items are being used in the house, number of powerpoints, lights, pumps etc. So when asking for a quote, Goulburn Solar will firstly ask you to complete a load sheet that details every electrical component to be used and then customise the design specifically to your needs and energy use.

Victron Energy - MultiPlus-II
A multifunctional inverter/charger suitable for off grid applications for land, marine, yachting and vehicle. The combination of Power Control and PowerAssist means that when load is reduced spare power is used to recharge the battery. Although designed for offgrid, this system can be used in grid connected PV and other alternative energy systems.
